Kumagoro was started by Itsuro Tamaki in 1978 with the mission to bring Japanese cuisine to The Last Frontier. Focusing on traditional Japanese cuisine the way it should be served with fresh seafood, delicious rice dishes, and traditional ramen.

We’re thrilled to announce that Kumagoro is now under new ownership as of 2024! The new team is excited to bring a passion for authentic Japanese cuisine and a strong commitment to our community. With extensive experience in the culinary world, they aim to uphold Kumagoro’s cherished traditions while introducing fresh and innovative dishes.

Kumagoro is Anchorage's original sushi restaurant. Located in the heart of downtown Anchorage on a major tourist street.
Our restaurant encapsulates what both local Alaskans and our tourist guests love. Choose between large hearty rolls and also traditional Japanese nigiri and sashimi if you prefer authentic sushi. We also serve traditional Japanese Ramen.
