About
Kumagoro was started by Itsuro Tamaki 41 years ago in 1978 with the mission to bring Japanese cuisine to The Last Frontier. Focusing on traditional Japanese cuisine the way it should be served with fresh seafood, delicious rice dishes, and traditional ramen.

In 2019, Kumagoro went under new ownership. Itsuro still visits regularly to support the restaurant. New owners Jennifer Choi and Steve Lee now run the day-to-day operations. They continue to focus on balancing a good hybrid of traditional Japanese food and also have introduced new dishes to suite the Anchorage community.

Kumagoro is Anchorage's original sushi restaurant. Located in the heart of downtown Anchorage on a major tourist street.
Our restaurant encapsulates what both local Alaskans and our tourist guests love. Choose between large hearty rolls and also traditional Japanese nigiri and sashimi if you prefer authentic sushi. We also serve traditional Japanese Ramen.

We also have a variety of bento boxes for eaters who are on-the-go.
